Never say that the internet is not recyclable.
A new hashtag has just viralized on social networks. #trashtag, an online challenge for users to post profile photos in a “before and after” format of regions that have been contaminated by the relentless disposal of trash.
It is basically a movement to encourage ordinary citizens to collect the garbage that is constantly thrown on the street. The hashtag proved extremely popular. Participants have cleared a considerable amount of streets, squares and beaches.
The challenge was created in 2015, but only viralized in the month of March 2019. The idea came from UCO Gear and was originally intended to protect forest areas.
A Facebook post resurrected the tag and so far more than 25,000 posts have been published on Instagram with #trashtag or #trashtagchallenge.
