Local Context
The project aims to decrease the greenhouse effect caused by the ceramic industry in the state of Tocantins. The effects of non-selective logging became a growing concern regarding the ecological balance and the penalties foreseen in environmental legislation. Logging activity can be carried out in a sustainable and continuous manner through a management system based on natural regeneration and planting of native species. The project lasted from 2007 to 2009 and had partners such as Sebrae, Senai and Sindicer.
Project Description
The project consists of carrying out an environmental diagnosis and training of entrepreneurs, aiming to seek new energy sources for the rational use of forest resources and social responsibility. The study seeks to scale the carbon fluxes in areas for of ceramic activity through geoprocessing studies, identifying the baseline and the potential to generate carbon credits.
Some results: systematization, processing and analysis of data collected in the field; preparation of a study; identification of plant’s characteristic of each affected region; identification of landscape modification level in the region; knowledge of the current situation of the impact on soil, vegetation and water bodies; survey about social, environmental and economic liabilities; training; ; preparation of carbon emission reduction projects to obtain carbon credits; report containing the energy needs of 68 ceramic industries across the Tocantins.
