Plastic and Homo Sapiens continue their crusade to undermine the lives of animals.
Anything in excess is bad. And plastic in excess, apparently, is very bad.
In addition to the discomfort, pollution and often death, the excessive amount of plastic in the oceans has just created another evil for the sea life: sterilization.
According to a report from the Royal Society, plastic-generated pollution cocktails in the oceans release waste products that alter endocrine levels in the animal’s body.
With the endocrine system affected, numerous hormones have their functioning altered. One of the most extreme consequences would be those caused to the reproductive system . The change is causing some animals to fail to develop their reproductive system right.
Still considered relatively new, endocrine-disrupting chemicals still prove to be a mystery to the scientific community, with the full scope of their effects, both in animals and humans, still unknown.
